Biography
14 Bis is a Brazilian rock band formed in 1979 in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The band emerged from the merger of members of two previous bands: O Terço and Bendegó. Its original members included brothers Cláudio and Flávio Venturini, Sérgio Magrão, Vermelho, and Hely Rodrigues. Flávio Venturini and Vermelho were also members of the iconic musical movement Clube da Esquina. The band's name is a tribute to the 14 Bis airplane, created by Brazilian inventor Santos Dumont.
The sound of 14 Bis is characterized by a fusion of progressive rock, 1960s rock influences, música popular brasileira (MPB), and country elements, featuring a prominent use of analog keyboards and elaborate vocal arrangements. The band reached the height of its popularity in the 1980s, with compositions that frequently addressed light and joyful themes, which made it especially beloved by children. Throughout its career, 14 Bis has released a vast discography, including studio albums, live albums, and DVDs, establishing itself as an important name in the history of Brazilian rock.
The band has maintained a solid lineup since its founding, with Cláudio Venturini (guitar and vocals), Sérgio Magrão (bass and vocals), Vermelho (keyboards and vocals), and Hely Rodrigues (drums) as active members for decades. Despite Flávio Venturini's departure in 1988, 14 Bis continued its journey, celebrating in 2025 its 45 years of activity with concerts and partnerships. The band has been recognized with the title of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the municipality, attesting to its cultural and musical relevance.
