Biography
5 a Seco is a Brazilian musical band formed in São Paulo in 2009. The group is known for its unique democratic structure, consisting of five singer-songwriters of equal importance—Leo Bianchini, Pedro Altério, Pedro Viáfora, Tó Brandileone, and Vinicius Calderoni—who alternate roles without a single central frontman. The name reflects both their collective nature and their initial stripped-down performance style, drawing inspiration from the laundry chain 5àsec. Early in their history, musician Dani Black was part of the group before leaving for a solo career, paving the way for Leo Bianchini to join in 2010.
The band released their debut live DVD, Ao Vivo no Auditório Ibirapuera, in 2011, which featured guest appearances by renowned MPB artists such as Lenine, Maria Gadú, and Chico César. Following this success, they recorded their sophomore album, Policromo (2014), during a productive 17-day session at a farmhouse studio in the interior of São Paulo, supported by the Natura Musical project. This was followed by subsequent studio releases, including Síntese in 2018 and Pausa in 2019, the latter accompanying a temporary hiatus after celebrating their 10th anniversary.
After an indefinite pause announced in 2019, the band officially ended their hiatus in April 2024 with a performance at the Coala Festival, alongside the release of their project Sentido. Throughout their career, 5 a Seco has collaborated with or shared stages with prominent figures of Brazilian popular music like Dani Black, aligning themselves with contemporary MPB and singer-songwriter movements. Their work remains celebrated for its rich vocal harmonies and self-sufficient acoustic instrumentation.
