Biography

The band 5 Generais emerged in Brasília in the mid-1985s, during a period of cultural and political effervescence in Brazil, with the end of the military regime. Formed by dissatisfied youths, the band became one of the pioneers of gothic rock and post-punk in the country, with a sound characterized by introspective lyrics, social criticism, and an urban and nocturnal atmosphere. Their musical influences include names like The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and The Cure, which is reflected in their compositions.

Alongside other bands from the second wave of Brasília rock, such as Escola de Escândalos and Finnis Africae, 5 Generais stood out for their unique sound and lyrics that addressed human suffering and criticism of modern society. The band released their first independent LP, "Onde Estão as Pessoas?", through Devil Records, featuring tracks like "Outro Trago", "Falsos Sorrisos", and "Ratos de Brasília". They also participated in important compilations such as "Rock Brasília Explode Brasil" and "Outros Rumores", in addition to performing at various festivals and TV shows.

Although the band ended their activities in the 90s due to crises in the phonographic market, 5 Generais left a lasting legacy in Brazilian music, being remembered as precursors of a genre and influencing new generations of artists. Occasionally, the members reunite for events and tributes, demonstrating the strength and relevance of their work. Their music continues to be appreciated by fans of darkwave, gothic, and post-punk, consolidating their position in the history of national rock.
