Biography

A Chave do Sol was a prominent Brazilian hard rock and progressive rock band formed in São Paulo in 1982. Initially consisting of Rubens Gióia on guitar and vocals, Luiz Domingues on bass and vocals, and José Luiz Dinola on drums and vocals, the group quickly gained a loyal following through their unique fusion of rock and jazz elements. Over their active years, they built a solid reputation in the Brazilian underground music scene, appearing frequently on television and radio programs while performing numerous live shows across São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The band underwent several lineup changes throughout their existence, working with various vocalists including Percy Weiss, Verônica Luhr, Fran Alves, and eventually Roberto Cruz. Their early releases, such as the 1984 single through Baratos Afins and their self-titled 1985 EP, showcased a heavy yet progressive sound. In 1987, they finally released their debut full-length album, The Key, in partnership with Rock Brigade, featuring socially conscious tracks like "Sun City" which addressed apartheid in South Africa.

Following internal management and artistic disagreements at the end of 1987, the band fractured, with members continuing under the moniker The Key before eventually disbanding in the early 1990s. Despite their eventual dissolution, members of A Chave do Sol went on to shape other notable Brazilian rock acts such as Patrulha do Espaço, Violeta de Outono, and Dr. Sin. Their legacy remains an important milestone in the history of Brazilian heavy metal and progressive rock.
