Biography

A Cor do Som is a Brazilian musical group formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1977. The band emerged from the musicians who accompanied Moraes Moreira after his departure from the iconic group Novos Baianos. Initially, the members lived together and experimented with a fusion of samba, rock, frevo, choro, and baião, leading to the creation of their own project with an innovative musical proposal. The band's name was suggested by Caetano Veloso, inspired by Gilberto Gil's album "A Cor do Som" and a song by Moraes Moreira and Luis Galvão.

The original lineup of A Cor do Som featured Dadi Carvalho on bass, Mú Carvalho on keyboards, Gustavo Schroeter on drums, and Armandinho Macêdo on guitar, bandolim, and guitarra baiana. Shortly after, percussionist Ary Dias joined the group. The band gained international recognition in 1978 by performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, showcasing the richness and versatility of Brazilian music. Their sound is often described as a blend of MPB, instrumental music, psychedelic rock, and pop rock.

Throughout their career, A Cor do Som has released numerous albums and achieved significant success with songs like "Zanzibar," "Beleza Pura" (a collaboration with Caetano Veloso), and "Abri a Porta." The band is considered a precursor to modern Brazilian instrumental music, influencing many other artists. The current lineup consists of Dadi Carvalho, Armandinho Macêdo, Mú Carvalho, Ary Dias, and Gustavo Schroeter, who continue to perform and record.
