Biography

A Outra Banda da Terra was a Brazilian musical group formed in 1977 that accompanied Caetano Veloso during a crucial phase of his career. Composed of talented musicians such as Tomás Improta (keyboards), Arnaldo Brandão (bass), Vinícius Cantuária (drums), Perinho Santana (guitar), and Edu "Bolão" Gonçalves (percussion), the band was fundamental to the sound of Caetano's iconic albums.

The group collaborated with Caetano Veloso on five albums: "Muito – Dentro da Estrela Azulada" (1978), "Cinema Transcendental" (1979), "Outras Palavras" (1981), "Cores Nomes" (1982), and "Uns" (1983). The synergy between Caetano and the band was so great that he composed the song "A Outra Banda da Terra", featured on the last album recorded with the group, as a tribute to their complicity and mutual love. The band became notable for its versatility and for integrating elements of jazz and Brazilian rhythms into its compositions.

The partnership with A Outra Banda da Terra marked a period of intense creativity for Caetano Veloso, consolidating his reputation as one of the most innovative artists in Brazilian popular music. The band's influence can be perceived in the evolution of Caetano's music, as he explored new sonic textures and sophisticated arrangements during those years.
