Biography

A Patotinha was a children's and youth female vocal group formed in São Paulo in the late 1970s, signed to the RCA Victor label to perform at matinee shows. The original lineup featured Mônica Toniolo, Cecília Salazar, Márcia Jardim, and Kátia Romão, who began their artistic careers as children with the album Brincando de Roda numa Discotheque, released in 1978.

Major commercial success came with the double 7-inch single "Natal Numa Discotheque / Réveillon Numa Discotheque", which sold over 400,000 copies and earned the quartet their first gold record. Throughout their career, the group solidified their popularity with hits like "Melô dos patins", "Baile dos Passarinhos", and the song "ABC", the latter composed by Michael Sullivan and Paulo Massadas for the soundtrack of the Bozo show, broadcast by SBT.

In 1986, with the departure of Cecília and the arrival of Eliana — who would later become a well-known television presenter —, the group gained its most prominent lineup, which remained active until the early 1990s. In 1992, a new four-member lineup was introduced, although it stayed active for only a short time. In total, A Patotinha recorded an expressive discography with 11 LPs and 17 singles, connecting with the children's and youth audience in a way similar to names like Balão Mágico and Xuxa.
