Biography

A Tribo was a Brazilian psychedelic rock supergroup formed in the early 1970s. The band was composed of highly influential musicians: Nelson Ângelo, Joyce, Novelli, Toninho Horta, and Naná Vasconcelos, with Nenê later replacing Vasconcelos on drums. The group's innovative sound fused Brazilian musical elements with Western rock, creating a unique psychedelic experience.

A Tribo's output was limited, primarily consisting of singles and contributions to festival LPs. Notably, their song "Onocêonekotô" (written by Nelson Ângelo) reached the finals of the V Festival Internacional da Canção in 1970. A double EP was released under Joyce's name, but featured the full band. Despite their short-lived existence, A Tribo left a significant mark on the Brazilian music scene, influencing subsequent generations of artists.

The members of A Tribo went on to have prolific solo careers, contributing to numerous seminal works in Brazilian music. Nelson Ângelo, for instance, was a key figure in the Clube da Esquina movement and collaborated extensively with Joyce. Toninho Horta is renowned for his unique guitar techniques and international acclaim. Naná Vasconcelos achieved global recognition for his innovative percussion work, notably on the soundtrack for "Last Tango in Paris."
