Biography

Abel e Caim was an influential sertanejo duo formed by cousins José Vieira (Abel) and Sebastião Silva (Caim). The duo adopted their stage name in 1966, having already sung together since childhood. They stood out in the caipira and traditional sertanejo music scene, with lyrics portraying rural life and striking melodies. Throughout their career, they released around 400 songs, including hits like "Mãe Amorosa" and "Menino Boiadeiro".

In 1966, Abel e Caim won the first Festival da Música Sertaneja promoted by TV Cultura with the song "Natureza", and in the same year recorded their first LP. The duo passed through several record labels, such as Chantecler, Continental, RCA Victor, Copacabana, and CBS, releasing approximately 28 LPs and 7 CDs.

The duo ended their activities in 2011 with the passing of Abel. After Abel's death, Caim pursued an artistic career, forming partnerships such as "Caim e Amigos" and "Adel & Caim", in addition to having served as a city councilman in Marília. Abel e Caim are considered icons of traditional sertanejo music and influenced several artists of the genre, such as Daniel, Leonardo, and Zezé Di Camargo & Luciano.
