Biography
Adriana Maciel is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and flutist born in Brasília, Distrito Federal, in 1966. She began her musical studies at the age of 14, specializing in transverse flute at the University of Brasília (UnB). Her academic background also includes a degree in Literature from PUC-Rio, where she also holds a master's degree and is a PhD candidate in Brazilian Literature. Her musical career gained momentum in 1986, when she moved to Rio de Janeiro and joined Oswaldo Montenegro's band as a backing vocalist. Later, she delved into musical theater, working with renowned directors such as Luiz Fernando Lobo and Moacyr Góes.
In 1997, she released her self-titled debut album, produced by Celso Fonseca, which included compositions by artists such as Zé Ramalho, Arnaldo Antunes, and Péricles Cavalcanti. The song "Grama Verde," by Vítor Ramil and André Gomes, stood out by being included in the soundtrack of Rede Globo's telenovela "Corpo Dourado." Her second album, "Sozinha Minha," released in 2000, featured a repertoire of songs by Chico César, Lobão, and Zeca Baleiro, exploring a sound that blended electronic elements, percussion, and strings.
Throughout her career, Adriana Maciel has released other acclaimed albums, such as "Poeira Leve" (2004), featuring new arrangements of old sambas in delicate renditions, and "Dez Canções" (2008), with a predominantly unreleased repertoire. She has collaborated with several renowned Brazilian music artists, including Zeca Baleiro, Vitor Ramil, Moska, and Lenine, establishing herself as a sensitive and versatile interpreter, with a body of work that moves between MPB and bossa nova.
