Biography

Adriano Jorge Giffoni de Lima is a Brazilian double bassist, electric bassist, arranger, and composer born in Quixadá. Known for his work with the band Azymuth, Giffoni was recognized in 2016 as the seventh best bassist in Brazil by the Brazucas Bass website. His 2007 album, Quixadá Acústico, earned a nomination for the Prêmio Tim de Música in 2008, while his instructional books on Brazilian bass have gained international acclaim, being adopted by institutions such as the Berklee College of Music.

Giffoni began his musical journey playing acoustic guitar by ear at the age of nine before transitioning to professional bar performances in Olinda as a teenager. He later formalised his education at the conservatory of the Federal University of Amazonas, the Brasília School of Music, and through studies with renowned musicians like Ian Guest, Zeca Assumpção, and Sandrino Santoro in Rio de Janeiro. Throughout his career, he has released several acclaimed albums, including Madrugada Carioca, Contrabaixo Brasileiro, and Baixo Brasil, alongside his work with the Adriano Giffoni Trio.

Beyond his performance career, Giffoni has made significant contributions to music education through published works like Música Brasileira para Contrabaixo and Slap Com Ritmos Brasileiros. His expertise has also extended to television, where he recorded the theme song for the Rede Globo series Mulher in 1999. Through his collaborations and educational publications, artists such as Ian Guest have shared artistic intersections in the Brazilian instrumental scene.
