Biography

Afonso Maia is a Brazilian singer who began his artistic career in the early 1960s, participating in talent shows and winning "A Voz de Ouro." He holds a degree in Administration, a profession he pursued alongside his singing career.

In 1965, Maia was featured on the compilation album "Vozes novas do Rio" by Musidisc, performing songs like "Pioneira" and "Cansei de Olhar." His career gained further momentum in 1987 with the release of his LP "Sempre romântico – Afonso Maia," produced by Jaime Álem, which included interpretations of popular songs such as "Um dia de domingo" and "Gente humilde."

Maia is known for his vocal resemblance to the iconic Brazilian singer Nelson Gonçalves, and has been considered his successor by the media. His repertoire includes samba-canção, traditional samba, boleros, and tangos. In recent years, he has continued to perform, including a show at the Centro Municipal de Referência da Música Carioca Arthur da Távola in 2014.
