Biography

Akira S & As Garotas Que Erraram was a notable Brazilian post-punk band formed in São Paulo in 1984. The group was born from the union of lyricist and vocalist Alex Antunes and bassist and electronic composer Akira S, quickly standing out in the São Paulo underground scene for their sonic experimentalism and pioneering use of MSX computer programming and synthesizers in national pop music. With influences ranging from the progressive rock of no wave to the textures of punk-funk, the lineup also featured stints by musicians such as Edson X and Giuseppe Lenti, in addition to special appearances on fundamental compilations of the era.

The group's trajectory is marked by expressive collaborations and by circulating in important spaces of the Brazilian counterculture of the 1980s, such as Lira Paulistana and festivals at Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro. Among the standout phonographic records is the track "Sobre as Pernas", featured on the compilation Não São Paulo I, which included percussion by André Jung and collaboration from German musician Holger Czukay. The band released their only self-titled album in 1987 on the Baratos Afins label and had compositions re-recorded by other relevant artists, such as Skowa e a Máfia.

Even with the cessation of their regular activities, the legacy of Akira S & As Garotas Que Erraram remained alive in the memory of the Brazilian alternative scene, being frequently remembered on compilations dedicated to national post-punk and no wave. The group's precursor sound dialogues with the inventiveness of contemporary artists from the independent scene and with fundamental names of national rock from that decade, echoing the aesthetic of bands such as Voluntários da Pátria and Cabine C.
