Biography
Akira S e as Garotas Que Erraram was a pioneering Brazilian post-punk group formed in the city of São Paulo in 1984. The band was born from the union between lyricist and cultural agitator Alex Antunes and bassist and electronic composer Akira S, bringing an aesthetic proposal marked by sonic experimentalism and the innovative use of MSX computer programming and synthesizers in national pop music. By mixing elements of 1970s funk, no wave, and complex instrumental textures, the group is also pointed out by critics as a precursor of post-rock in Brazil.
Throughout its trajectory, the project was part of the vibrant São Paulo underground scene of the 1980s and featured the collaboration of important musicians, such as guitarists Miguel Barella and Giuseppe Lenti, in addition to drummer Edson X. The track "Sobre as Pernas", released on the historic compilation Não São Paulo I, featured special guest performances such as André Jung's, consolidating the group's projection on rock radio stations at the time. The band's only self-titled studio album was released in 1987 by the Baratos Afins label, leaving a lasting legacy in the most inventive branch of Brazilian alternative rock.
After the end of the group's main activities, the founders remained active in different formations and partnerships in the national independent scene. Akira S and Alex Antunes collaborated in projects like Kyodai and Indústria Mirabile 2, the latter alongside Ciro Pessoa. The band's work remained a cult reference of the post-punk movement and experimental electronic music in the country, being later rescued in retrospective compilations of the genre.
