Biography

Alceu Maia is a renowned Brazilian instrumentalist, cavaquinho player, acoustic guitarist, and composer, born in Rio de Janeiro on May 12, 1953. His musical career is marked by a deep connection with samba and choro, genres he explores with mastery and innovation. A degree holder in Social Communication from PUC-Rio, Maia has also worked as a journalist and music producer, further enriching his artistic profile.

His professional trajectory began in student festivals, where he accompanied friends and presented his own compositions. Starting in 1975, he began working in recording studios, participating in countless albums alongside major names in Brazilian popular music, such as Clara Nunes, Simone, Chico Buarque, Elizeth Cardoso, Cartola, and Paulinho da Viola, among others. His skill with the cavaquinho led him to be invited by Beth Carvalho to join her ensemble, forming "A Fina Flor do Samba", which accompanied the singer in shows and also developed its own career.

Alceu Maia is recognized for his versatility and contribution to Brazilian music, having received the "Prêmio Sharp" for "Best Arranger" and the "Troféu Brahma Extra" for his work as an instrumentalist. As a composer, he has over 100 songs recorded by artists such as Alcione, Martinho da Vila, and Leci Brandão. His influence extends beyond Brazil's borders, having performed in various countries and participated in international projects, establishing himself as one of the great names in choro and samba.
