Biography

Alexandre Brasil Carvalho da Fonseca is a prominent Brazilian sociologist and academic. He holds a degree in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a Master's in Sociology and Anthropology from UFRJ, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of São Paulo (USP). Fonseca also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Barcelona.

Fonseca's career has spanned academia and public service. He served as an advisor in the Presidency of the Republic, focusing on social participation and human rights. He is a titular professor at UFRJ and has held directorial positions at the NUTES Institute for Science and Health Education and as Pro-Rector of Personnel at UFRJ. His academic work often explores themes such as food and culture, health education, inequalities, religious diversity, media, and disinformation.

Beyond his academic and administrative roles, Fonseca has authored academic works, including "Relações e Privilégios: Estado, secularização e diversidade religiosa no Brasil" (Relations and Privileges: State, Secularization, and Religious Diversity in Brazil). His expertise has also led him to contribute to governmental policy, serving as Director of Policies and Programs for Higher Education at the Ministry of Education.
