Biography
Alexandre Gismonti Medeiros Amim is a Brazilian classical and instrumental guitarist, arranger, and composer born in Rio de Janeiro on February 13, 1981. He is the first son of the renowned multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti and the brother of pianist Bianca Gismonti. Growing up surrounded by rich musical traditions, he began touring nationally and internationally alongside his father starting in 1997, laying a strong foundation for his own professional career in instrumental music.
In 2009, he recorded his debut album in a duo with his father titled Saudações, which was released by the prestigious German label ECM. Building upon his rising solo career, he released his solo album Baião de Domingo in 2010 through Fina Flor, an accomplishment that earned him a nomination as revelation artist at the 2010 Brazilian Music Award. That same year, his international presence expanded significantly when he toured the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States as part of the International Guitar Night 2010/2011 project, later recording the collaborative album IGN V for Warner Canada alongside other esteemed guitarists.
As a composer representing the new generation of Brazilian instrumentalists, Alexandre has had his original works featured at prominent events such as the Guarulhos Instrumental Festival and the TIM Choro Festival. His talent as an interpreter was formally recognized when he was selected for the prestigious VISA Brazilian Music Award in 2004. Through his recordings and live performances, he continues to contribute significantly to the legacy of contemporary Brazilian acoustic guitar.
