Biography

Alexandre Kamal Kassin is a prominent Brazilian music producer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born in Rio de Janeiro in 1974. He first gained recognition in the 1990s as a member of the independent alternative rock band Acabou La Tequila, helping shape the carioca underground music scene. During the 2000s, he collaborated with Moreno Veloso and Domenico Lancelotti to form the experimental trio +2, releasing several acclaimed albums and composing the soundtrack for the Grupo Corpo dance production Imã. Kassin is also a member of the vibrant collective Orquestra Imperial and explored electronic and chiptune experimentation through his solo project Artificial, using a Game Boy to create music for the album Free Usa.

As a highly sought-after producer, Kassin has shaped the sound of numerous seminal Brazilian records across various genres. His extensive production credits include landmark albums for artists such as Los Hermanos, Adriana Calcanhotto, Marcelo Jeneci, and Vanessa da Mata. He has also worked closely with legendary figures like Caetano Veloso, Jorge Mautner, and Erasmo Carlos, while producing contemporary artists including Mallu Magalhães, Thalma de Freitas, and Filipe Catto.

Kassin embarked on his official solo career with the release of his debut album Sonhando Devagar in 2011. He continued to expand his artistic output with his solo work, notably releasing the album Relax in 2018, which received critical acclaim and was recognized by Rolling Stone Brasil and the São Paulo Association of Art Critics. Beyond his studio and stage work, he has composed music for diverse multimedia projects, including the anime series Michiko to Hatchin.
