Biography

Alexandre Leão was born in Salvador, Bahia, on September 1, 1971. He is a Brazilian singer, instrumentalist, composer, and acoustic guitarist who began his artistic career at an early age, having his first composition recorded by Maria Bethânia when he was only seventeen years old. Throughout his career, he has established himself as a prominent name in the Brazilian music scene, collaborating with several renowned artists and having his songs recorded by celebrated interpreters such as Ivete Sangalo, Margareth Menezes, and Rosa Passos.

His discography includes works such as the albums Minha Palavra, Alexandre Leão, and the acclaimed Axé, Babá, which revisited classics of the Bahian Carnival and gained international projection by being distributed in over a hundred countries by the Putumayo label. In addition, he stood out for his intense activity on stage, headlining long-running musical seasons in Salvador, participating in special projects alongside Margareth Menezes and Moreno Veloso, and actively taking part in the renewal of the Bahian carnival festivities as one of the founders of Microtrio.

Recognized for his versatility, Alexandre also stood out as a producer of soundtracks for film and television, in addition to moving with ease through different genres of Brazilian popular music. His work unites the tradition of Bahian musicality with contemporary arrangements, maintaining lasting partnerships with prominent poets and composers and leaving a remarkable contribution to Brazilian culture.
