Biography
Alexandre Pires do Nascimento was born in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, and rose to prominence on the Brazilian musical scene by founding, in 1989, the romantic pagode group Só Pra Contrariar (SPC), alongside his brother and a cousin. The ensemble achieved enormous national success in the 1990s with hits like "Que Se Chama Amor" and "Depois do Prazer", consolidating itself as one of the main exponents of the genre and expanding its popularity to the Hispanic market.
After years at the helm of SPC and achieving international recognition with prominent partnerships, such as with Gloria Estefan, Alexandre began his solo career in the early 2000s with the album É Por Amor. Throughout his trajectory, the singer transitioned across different facets of national music and paid tribute to his roots in MPB in the project DNA Musical, which featured appearances by icons such as Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Jorge Ben Jor, Martinho da Vila, Gilberto Gil, and Djavan.
In addition to his solid solo discography, which includes projects geared toward the Latin market and high-profile partnerships—such as the "Irmãos" tour alongside Seu Jorge—the artist has maintained a strong presence in Brazilian popular culture through commemorative tours with Só Pra Contrariar and collaborations with various names in sertaneja music and pagode. His career is marked by interpretive versatility and impressive record sales over decades of performing.
