Biography
Alexia Bomtempo is a Brazilian-American singer and songwriter whose music beautifully blends elements of MPB, samba, bossa nova, and jazz with a touch of "cinematic dream pop with a tropical indie rock twist." Born in Washington, D.C., to an American mother and a Brazilian father, Bomtempo spent her formative years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, absorbing the rich musical landscape from a young age. This dual upbringing has profoundly shaped her artistic identity, allowing her to navigate between Brazilian and American musical traditions with fluidity and grace.
Her career officially launched in 2008 with the release of her debut album, "Astrolábio," produced by Dadi. The album featured a mix of romantic sambas, ballads, and pop songs, including notable English-language covers. Bomtempo has since released several critically acclaimed albums, including "I Just Happen to Be Here," a tribute to Caetano Veloso, and "Chasing Storms and Stars," a collaboration with her husband, Jake Owen, that explored their intertwined Brazilian and West Texas roots. Her more recent work, such as "Suspiro" and "Doce Carnaval," continues to showcase her unique fusion of genres and her deep connection to Brazilian music.
Bomtempo's music has garnered international attention, leading to tours across Brazil, Europe, Japan, and North America. She has been praised by publications like NPR Music and The Washington Post for her distinctive voice and innovative approach to Brazilian music. Her collaborations include artists such as Jesse Harris, Frejat, Orkestra Rumpilezz, and Stéphane San Juan, further cementing her place in the contemporary music scene.
