Biography

Alice Ruiz is a renowned Brazilian poet, translator, and lyricist born in Curitiba, Paraná. She began writing at a young age and became deeply influenced by the haiku poetry style, largely introduced to her by her partner, the iconic poet Paulo Leminski. Throughout her career, Ruiz expanded her artistic footprint by writing lyrics for various musical projects, notably collaborating with artists such as Alzira Espíndola on the album Paralelas. Her extensive body of work as a lyricist includes over fifty recorded songs interpreted by prominent names in Brazilian popular music, cementing her legacy in the country's cultural landscape.

In addition to her musical contributions, Ruiz was a founding member of the avant-garde literary group Áporo and has published numerous books of poetry, earning prestigious accolades such as the Jabuti Prize. Her ability to blend traditional Japanese poetic forms with Brazilian sensibilities has made her a central figure in propagating and "tropicalizing" the haiku in Brazil. She frequently worked alongside other cultural innovators of her generation, bridging literature, visual culture, and songcraft.
