Biography

Alípio Martins was a renowned Brazilian singer, songwriter, and music producer born in Belém, Pará. He emerged as a significant exponent of lambada and brega, musical styles that swept through Brazil during the 1980s. Alongside contemporaries such as Beto Barbosa and Odair José, he helped shape the popular Latin-infused rhythms of the era.

From a young age, Martins harbored strong ambitions of pursuing a professional music career. As a teenager, he famously stowed away on a ship bound for Rio de Janeiro to chase his dream before eventually returning to Pará. He later spent seven years living in the United States with his partner Marceli, where he was heavily influenced by North American musical icons before returning to Brazil.

Throughout his prolific career, Martins achieved immense commercial success, earning numerous gold and platinum certifications and selling millions of records. Although he often considered himself a better producer than a singer, he left behind a memorable catalog of hits as both a performer and composer. He passed away in Belém at the age of 52 due to stomach cancer.
