Biography

Almaz is a collective musical project that emerged from the collaboration between renowned Brazilian singer and actor Seu Jorge, multi-instrumentalist Antonio Pinto, and members of the band Nação Zumbi, drummer Pupillo and guitarist Lúcio Maia. The group released their debut album, titled "Seu Jorge e Almaz", in 2010, with an initial release in Japan and the United States, followed by Europe and, subsequently, the Brazilian market.

The Almaz project was born during the recording of the soundtrack for Walter Salles's film "Linha de Passe", when the trio invited Seu Jorge to record vocals on one of the tracks. The chemistry between the artists was so strong that they decided to expand the collaboration into a full album. The record's repertoire consists of covers of songs that inspired the members of Almaz, blending Brazilian music classics, such as Tim Maia and Jorge Ben, with influences from American and European soul, such as Roy Ayers and Kraftwerk, all presented in a style reminiscent of psychedelic samba.

The album "Seu Jorge e Almaz" was produced by Mario C., known for his work with artists like Beastie Boys and Jack Johnson. The project's sound is described as warm and dark, psychedelic yet earthy, capable of being both uplifting and melancholic. Almaz's purpose is to create an environment of creative freedom, where music is the only leader and inspiration is the guide. The project is an example of how Brazilian artists from different backgrounds can come together to create something new and expressive while maintaining each other's identity.

The album featured musicians such as Pupillo (drums), Lúcio Maia (guitar), Antonio Pinto (bass and composition), and Seu Jorge (vocals), in addition to production by Mario C. The work was released by EMI Records and received attention from specialized critics, being highlighted for its originality and fusion of styles. Almaz represents a milestone in its members' careers, demonstrating versatility and the capacity for innovation within Brazilian music.
