Biography

Almira Castilho was born in Olinda on August 24, 1924, initially working as a teacher before entering the artistic career. In her cultural trajectory, she stood out as a singer, composer, and dancer, besides having worked as a radio actress and rumba dancer at Rádio Jornal do Commercio.

Her entry into music took place in 1954, when she joined the choir in the interpretation of Sebastiana's classic, recorded by Jackson do Pandeiro. With whom she was married between 1955 and 1967, Almira formed one of the most important duos in northeastern music, making remarkable performances on the radio and in several national cinema films of the time.

As a composer, she co-authored fundamental works of our culture alongside great names, creating with Jackson hits like Forró em Limoeiro and A mulher de Aníbal, besides establishing a partnership with Gordurinha on the iconic song Chiclete com Banana. She passed away in Recife on February 26, 2011, leaving an invaluable legacy for the history of northeastern rhythms.
