Biography
Alpha Jerk is a rock band originating from Fredericksburg, VA, that emerged on the local music scene in the early 2000s. The band is composed of rock veterans like Larry Hinkle and James Noll, who had previously played in groups such as Sore Losers and BEEF JERKY. Initially, the lineup featured Hinkle, Noll, and Missy Colombo on bass, releasing the debut album "Year of the Cock" and the "Greenman EP" before a period of hiatus.
After a seventeen-year break, the original trio reunited, discovering that their musical chemistry had intensified. With the addition of guitarist Mark Phelan and the support of venue 1111, the band returned in full force. This new energy resulted in the collection "XIXI", featuring six tracks that mix originals and covers, demonstrating the group's versatility. More recently, the band has been working on a series of single releases in 2024, such as "St. Helen", "Hellfire" and "Get it Outta My Head", which showcase the evolution of their signature sound.
In addition to their own compositions, Alpha Jerk also explored hardcore and emo in earlier work, such as the 1996 self-titled album, which featured Derrick Green (later vocalist of Sepultura) and was released by Toybox Records. The band is known for their eclectic musical approach and for not sticking to a single genre or philosophy, moving between influences reminiscent of The Stooges and Zolar X.
