Biography

Althair & Alexandre, formerly known as Ataíde & Alexandre, is a prominent Brazilian sertanejo duo formed by brothers Claudemir Marçal (Althair) and Laudarcy Ricardo de Oliveira (Alexandre). The duo has been active for over three decades, establishing themselves as one of the most traditional and respected acts in Brazilian country music. Their career began in the early 1980s, with Alexandre initially forming a partnership with Ataíde. Alexandre, in particular, is a highly prolific songwriter, credited with over 1,500 songs recorded by numerous artists in the sertanejo genre.

Throughout their career, Althair & Alexandre have released numerous successful albums and singles, with hits such as "Deus Me Livre," "Tá Nervoso... Vai Pescá," "Laço Aberto," "Rosas e Versos," and "Estrada do Amor." The song "Deus Me Livre" was notably covered by the popular group Raça Negra. In 2016, the duo officially changed their name from Ataíde & Alexandre to Althair & Alexandre, a change prompted by a legal dispute with the former member Ataíde. This rebranding marked a new phase while maintaining their signature style and commitment to quality sertanejo music.

Althair & Alexandre's music is characterized by romantic and danceable melodies, drawing from both rural and urban influences within the sertanejo tradition. They have been recognized for their enduring appeal, crossing generations and maintaining a strong connection with their audience through heartfelt lyrics and skillful performances. Their extensive discography includes around 30 works, encompassing LPs, CDs, and DVDs, showcasing their lasting impact on Brazilian music. They have also been recognized for their contributions to the genre, with Alexandre being lauded as one of the most significant modern sertanejo composers.
