Biography
The duo Alvarenga and Bentinho was formed in 1938, featuring Murilo Alvarenga and José Vosno Filho (Bentinho). Despite its short duration, the partnership recorded a few 78 RPM records with Odeon. The friendship between Alvarenga and Bentinho was so strong that Bentinho was the godfather of Alvarenga's son, Delmare Alvarenga, who became a renowned maestro and conductor of the Cologne Opera Symphony Orchestra in Germany.
The duo performed on various occasions, including at the Cassino da Urca in Rio de Janeiro, where they became one of the main attractions. In 1942, Alvarenga and Bentinho were in Recife for performances. Alvarenga's career trajectory, however, is best known for his long partnership with "Ranchinho", with whom he formed the famous duo "Alvarenga and Ranchinho".
Murilo Alvarenga (1912-1978) was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and humorist, born in Itaúna, Minas Gerais. He was part of several formations throughout his career, the most notable being the duo Alvarenga and Ranchinho, which performed for over four decades on radio, in circuses, and in film. Alvarenga and Ranchinho stood out for their political and social satires, which often resulted in persecution and arrests. The duo also participated in more than 30 films.
