Biography
Ana Carolina de Souza, born in Juiz de Fora, is one of the most striking voices of contemporary Brazilian popular music. Raised in a family with a strong musical streak — with family accounts even mentioning a supposed involvement of her grandmother with Luiz Gonzaga —, she began her trajectory singing in bars in Minas Gerais at the age of 18. Her musical background was forged by interpreting classics from names such as Chico Buarque and João Gilberto, an experience that served as the basis for her future vocal versatility as a contralto.
National recognition came right with her debut album in 1999, driven by the resounding success of the song "Garganta," a composition by her frequent collaborator Antonio Villeroy. Throughout the 2000s, Ana Carolina established herself as a record-breaker in sales and radio airplay with hits like "Quem de Nós Dois" and "Uma Louca Tempestade." Her friendship with Cássia Eller was fundamental at the beginning of her career in Rio de Janeiro, and years later, in 2022, Ana would pay tribute to her friend with a tour dedicated to her repertoire.
One of the defining moments of her career was the partnership with Seu Jorge on the project "Ana & Jorge" (2005), which spawned the hit "É Isso Aí." Always seeking renewal, the artist explored sonic experimentation in albums such as "Dois Quartos" and "N9ve," the latter featuring Maria Gadú. Besides music, Ana Carolina also ventured into literature with the book "Ruído Branco," revealing facets of her personal life and creative processes. With more than two decades on the road, she remains a central figure of MPB, accumulating awards and millions of albums sold.
