Biography
Ana Frango Elétrico is the stage name of Ana Faria Fainguelernt, a versatile Brazilian artist born in Rio de Janeiro in 1997. Raised in a creative environment by a visual artist and a therapist, she began her formal musical education at the age of six. Her artistic pseudonym is a tribute to her grandfather, who was nicknamed "Frango Elétrico" due to colleagues' difficulty pronouncing his Russian-Jewish surname. Before fully committing to music, she explored painting and photography, forming her first band, Almoço Nu, at age sixteen. \n\nHer discography began with Mormaço Queima (2018), but it was her second album, Little Electric Chicken Heart (2019), that propelled her to international fame. The record received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Album and was highly praised by major critics. Her sound, which she describes as "boss-pop-rock," blends elements of post-MPB with punk and indie influences. In addition to her solo career, she is an accomplished producer, having worked on the Latin Grammy-winning album SIM SIM SIM by the band Bala Desejo and collaborated with legendary figures such as Marcos Valle and Jards Macalé.\n\nIdentified as non-binary and queer, Ana uses her platform to advocate for LGBTQIA+ visibility. Her third studio effort, Me Chama de Gato Que Eu Sou Sua (2023), further cemented her status in the global indie scene with distribution in Europe and Japan. Beyond music, she is a published poet and painter, integrating these crafts into her multifaceted artistic identity.
