Biography

André e Andrade is a Brazilian "sertanejo" duo formed by brothers José de Freitas Machado (André) and Sebastião de Freitas Machado (Andrade), natives of Itaguari, Goiás. The duo is considered one of the oldest "sertanejo" duos still active in Brazil, with a career spanning over 50 years.

The brothers were born into a humble, large family with ten other siblings, children of João de Freitas Machado and Maria José Pereira. From an early age, their childhoods were marked by farm labor, but a love for music and following their father, a songwriter and "catira" dancer, led them to play the "viola" at "Folia de Reis" festivals. In 1973, they decided to pursue a professional music career and moved to Anápolis, Goiás, where they were hired by Rádio São Francisco to participate in the "Tarde Sertaneja" program.

In 1977, André and Andrade recorded their first LP with the RGD label, featuring the song "Jesus Cristo Veio ao Mundo". With the same label, they released four more LPs, including "Cama Fria", which earned them a Gold Record. In 1978, they supported the recording of the first album by their sisters, the "Irmãs Freitas". The duo passed through other labels such as Chantecler and Warner Continental, releasing various albums and CDs throughout their journey. André and Andrade are known for their "sertanejo raiz" style, with lyrics portraying rural life and "caipira" culture, and their songs have been re-recorded by various renowned artists such as Chrystian & Ralf, Chitãozinho & Xororó, and Zezé Di Camargo & Luciano.

The duo has performed on several television programs, such as "Viola, Minha Viola", "Som Brasil", "Raul Gil", among others. In 2018, they were presented as "the greatest expression of root music in Goiás" and, in 2020, they were the subject of a special program on TVE São Carlos. André and Andrade remain active in music, seeking to adapt to new trends and releasing new songs on streaming platforms, always faithful to authentic root music.
