Biography

André Luiz Geraissati was born in São Paulo on September 7, 1951, and became a prominent figure in Brazilian instrumental music. He began his musical journey taking guitar lessons with Sérgio Dias and started playing during the 1960s, eventually rising to prominence as a member of Grupo D'Alma from 1979 to 1985 alongside musicians like Ulisses Rocha and Nelson Faria.

Throughout his career, Geraissati collaborated with renowned artists such as Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascoal, and flautista Paul Horn, with whom he released the Grammy-nominated album "Brazilian Image" in 1990. He embarked on a prolific solo career starting in the 1980s, releasing acclaimed albums through Warner Records like "Entre Duas Palavras," "Insight," and "DADGAD," while also performing at prestigious events like the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Beyond his performance work, he made significant contributions as a musical director and producer, including curating the Brasil Musical project and directing the Jazz Meeting festival. Geraissati passed away in São Paulo on November 19, 2025, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the realm of Brazilian acoustic guitar.
