Biography

Andre Coelho Matos was a renowned Brazilian singer, songwriter, conductor, producer, and pianist, celebrated worldwide as one of the greatest exponents of power metal. Born in São Paulo, he began his musical studies at the age of seven with the piano, joining the band Viper at just thirteen, with whom he recorded important albums and gained international projection. He graduated in Orchestral Conducting and Musical Composition from the Faculdade de Artes Alcântara Machado and dedicated himself to the study of lyric singing.

In the 1990s, along with Rafael Bittencourt, he founded the acclaimed band Angra, combining heavy metal with classical music. With Angra, he sold over a million copies and achieved enormous global prominence through masterpieces such as the albums Angels Cry and Holy Land. Later, he led the group Shaman, with whom he released the acclaimed album Ritual, whose track "Fairy Tale" was part of a soap opera soundtrack, in addition to participating in highly relevant projects such as Avantasia and Symfonia.

In his solid solo career, inaugurated with the album Time to Be Free in 2007, Andre continued to explore his artistic versatility and incomparable vocal technique. The artist passed away prematurely on June 8, 2019, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of national and international heavy music, being frequently compared to other icons of the scene such as Shaman and Rafael Bittencourt.
