Biography
Andrea Ernest Dias is a Brazilian flutist, composer, and researcher, recognized for her versatility and deep contribution to Brazilian instrumental music. The daughter of fellow flutist Odette Ernest Dias, Andrea inherited and expanded her family's musical legacy, standing out for her classical training and her work across various musical genres, from classical to popular.
With a career spanning from the 1980s, Andrea Ernest Dias has established herself as a prominent instrumentalist. She was a member of the National Symphony Orchestra–UFF for over two decades and participated in major festivals, such as the Free Jazz Festival. Her academic research on the work of Moacir Santos resulted in her doctoral thesis and the conception of the Moacir Santos Festival, an event dedicated to celebrating and deepening knowledge about the composer's work. This dedication to Moacir Santos's work is one of the pillars of her career, reflected in projects such as the show "Uma Roda para Moacir Santos."
Andrea Ernest Dias is also a frequent collaborator on other artists' projects and is part of several musical groups, such as Trio 3-63, Abstrai Ensemble, Orquestra Ouro Negro, Carlos Malta & Pife Muderno, and the Duo Andrea Ernest Dias & Elodie Bouny. Her most recent work includes the release of the album "Andrea Ernest Dias Quarteto," which explores compositions by masters such as Moacir Santos, Dona Ivone Lara, and Letieres Leite, demonstrating her continuous search for new sonic landscapes and her ability to navigate different musical aesthetics.
