Biography

Anescar Pereira Filho, artistically known as Anescar do Salgueiro, was born in Rio de Janeiro on July 4, 1929. He spent his childhood in Tijuca Forest and began his journey in samba at Morro da Cruz, near Andaraí. Despite his shy personality, he stood out profoundly as a singer, composer, and instrumentalist, building a solid career tied to the roots of Rio's samba and samba schools.

As one of the founders of the celebrated Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, Anescar authored memorable sambas that marked the history of the association, including the 1949 parade and the anthological samba-enredo Quilombo dos Palmares, which secured the championship title for the school in 1960. In partnership with Noel Rosa de Oliveira, he also composed the famous Chica da Silva in 1963, consolidating his name among the great composers of the genre.

In addition to his strong connection to carnival, Anescar was a member of important collectives and musical shows that valued traditional samba. He participated in the landmark musical Rosa of Ouro, alongside great names like Paulinho da Viola and Clementina de Jesus, in addition to being part of the ensembles Os Cinco Crioulos and A Voz do Morro. He passed away in his hometown on February 22, 2000, leaving an invaluable legacy for Brazilian culture.
