Biography

Aninha Franco is a writer, playwright, and cultural activist born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1951. With a degree in law, she practiced law for a period before dedicating herself entirely to poetry and theater. Her work includes books such as "Brechó" and "48 a 56," as well as plays like "Dendê e dengo" and "Os cafajestes." Franco also published "O teatro na Bahia" and is known for her cultural activism, having managed the "República AF" space in Pelourinho, which promoted prose, poetry, and gastronomy.

Her trajectory is marked by strong political and cultural engagement, with critical stances regarding the Brazilian political scenario. Aninha Franco has declared herself an anarchist since her adolescence and was once arrested for civil disobedience during the military dictatorship. She has also shown an appreciation for the Trio Elétrico, part of her generation, and actively participated in Bahian carnivals, playing the songbooks of artists such as Caetano Veloso and Moraes Moreira.
