Biography

The group Anjos da Lua emerged in 1998, in Rio de Janeiro, with the proposal to rescue and reinterpret the style of the great vocal groups of the first half of the 20th century, such as Anjos do Inferno and Bando da Lua, to which the ensemble's name is a direct tribute. Initially formed by Pedro Holanda, Eduardo Gallotti, Mariana Bernardes, Sandrinho, Ruben Jacobina, and Pedro Miranda, the group gathered weekly at the Empório 100 bar, in Lapa, to create vocal arrangements that would become their trademark.

Starting in the year 2000, Anjos da Lua assumed responsibility for the revitalization of Clube dos Democráticos, a traditional Rio de Janeiro carnival society with 144 years of history. For years, the group led the samba circle at the venue every Thursday, consolidating their presence in the Lapa musical scene and contributing to the cultural effervescence of the neighborhood. This performance strengthened the Brazilian identity sought by the modernists of 1922, showing the vitality of samba and Brazilian popular music.

In 2012, the group performed a season of shows on Wednesdays at the Carioca da Gema music venue in Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of special guests each week. In the same year, they participated in the project "Musicafinidades (Ecos de 22) – E tudo acaba em samba", promoted by Funarte at the Sala Funarte Sidney Miller. The project aimed to highlight artists who were fundamental to the revitalization of samba in Lapa, reaffirming the importance of Anjos da Lua for Brazilian music.
