Biography

Antonio Alves Pinto was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1967 and has built a solid career as a renowned Brazilian film score composer. The son of the celebrated cartoonist Ziraldo and brother of filmmaker Daniela Thomas, he was exposed to the artistic environment from an early age. At seventeen, he moved to the United States, where he had the opportunity to work as an intern for the acclaimed composer and pianist Philip Glass, refining his film composition techniques.

Throughout his career, Antonio Pinto has composed soundtracks for highly prominent productions on both the national and international scenes. Among his most celebrated works in Brazilian cinema are landmark films such as Central Station, City of God, Behind the Sun, Lula, Son of Brazil, Serra Pelada, and Marighella. His musical versatility has also allowed him to collaborate on projects with other artists and musicians, such as Dudu Aram and Samuel Ferrari.

In addition to his strong presence in Brazilian cinema, the composer expanded his horizons to Hollywood and global productions, scoring feature films such as Lord of War, Love in the Time of Cholera, Collateral, and the award-winning documentary Amy. His ability to translate visual narratives into soundscapes solidifies his reputation as one of the leading exponents of film music in Brazil.
