Biography
António José Rodeia Zambujo, better known as António Zambujo, was born in Beja, Portugal, on September 19, 1975. Since childhood, he was deeply connected to cante alentejano and music in general, starting to study the clarinet at age eight at the Conservatório Regional do Baixo Alentejo and falling in love early on with great fado names like Amália Rodrigues and Alfredo Marceneiro. He moved to Lisbon in his teens to pursue a music career, beginning to perform at Clube do Fado and joining the cast of the musical "Amália" directed by Filipe La Féria, which boosted his artistic projection and established him in the fado universe.
Throughout his career, Zambujo expanded his musical boundaries, fusing the tradition of fado and Portuguese music with influences from Brazilian popular music, having declared great admiration for João Gilberto. This strong connection with Brazil earned him enormous popularity in the South American country, as well as partnerships and recordings with prominent Brazilian artists such as Chico Buarque, Roberta Sá, Ney Matogrosso, Ivan Lins, Caetano Veloso, and Yamandu Costa. His album "Até Pensei Que Fosse Minha", released in 2016, consisted entirely of cover versions of Chico Buarque's work, further consolidating his transit between the cultures of Portugal and Brazil.
Internationally recognized, the musician has received various decorations and awards over the years, including the title of Commander of the Order of Prince Henry, presented by Portuguese president Aníbal Cavaco Silva in 2015. With an acclaimed discography covering works such as "Guia", "Quinto", "Do Avesso", and "Cidade", Zambujo has established himself as one of the greatest ambassadors of the Portuguese language and culture, maintaining intense stage activity and collaborating with exponents of various musical genres.
