Biography

Aquiles Priester is a renowned Brazilian heavy metal drummer born in Outjo, South West Africa (now Namibia), on June 25, 1971. After living in Africa for five years, he moved to Brazil, where he developed a deep passion for drumming and eventually became one of the most prominent figures in the country's metal scene. Throughout his prolific career, he has been a driving force behind several notable bands, most notably founding the heavy metal group Hangar and serving as the powerhouse drummer for Angra.

In addition to his foundational work with Hangar and Angra, Priester has lent his exceptional technical skills to numerous other prominent musical projects, including Noturnall, Freakeys, and Almah. His reputation for precision and speed has also earned him international recognition, leading to collaborations and tours with renowned foreign artists and acts such as Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Primal Fear, and W.A.S.P.. He even participated in the rigorous auditions to find a replacement for Mike Portnoy in the American progressive metal giants Dream Theater.

Beyond his extensive discography and relentless touring schedule, Priester is widely respected as an educator and clinician, hosting masterclasses and events like the Aquiles Priester Drum Festival. Alongside musicians like Kiko Loureiro, Rafael Bittencourt, and Edu Falaschi, he has continuously pushed the boundaries of Brazilian heavy metal and instrumental music, cementing his legacy as a global icon of the instrument.
