Biography

Armando da Costa Macedo, artistically known as Armandinho, was born in Salvador, Bahia, on May 22, 1953. Son of Osmar Macedo, one of the creators of the "trio elétrico" alongside Dodô, Armandinho inherited his family's musical tradition and spirit of experimentation. He began his musical career very early, forming the Trio Elétrico Mirim in 1962, at nine years of age. At ten, he performed publicly for the first time with the trio his father created especially for him. His skill with the mandolin, an instrument he learned from his father, soon stood out, as did his talent with the "guitarra baiana", which would become a reference for new guitarists.

Throughout his journey, Armandinho established himself as a virtuoso instrumentalist, singer, and composer, exploring diverse musical genres such as MPB, choro, frevo, rock, pop, and jazz. In 1967, he formed the rock band Hells Angels, and in 1968, he performed on the TV Tupi show "A Grande Chance", where he achieved great success. In the late 70s, he founded the band A Cor do Som, which became notable for its high instrumental quality and fusion of rock, jazz, and Brazilian music, performing at renowned festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Armandinho is recognized as one of Brazil's greatest icons of the electric guitar and acoustic guitar, having been included in prominent lists by Rolling Stone Brasil magazine. His career is marked by collaborations with major names in Brazilian music, such as Raphael Rabello, Paulo Moura, Yamandu Costa, Moraes Moreira, and Caetano Veloso. In 2023, he released the album "Encontro das Águas" with Yamandu Costa, which earned him the Brazilian Music Award for Best Instrumental Music Soloist in 2024. Armandinho remains active, participating in projects and shows that celebrate the richness of Brazilian instrumental music.
