Biography

Armando Soares Pittigliani, born in Santos, São Paulo, on December 26, 1934, is a prominent figure in the Brazilian record industry, with a career spanning from 1955. His professional trajectory began at Companhia Brasileira de Discos, which later became Philips, Phonogram, PolyGram, and Universal Music, where he worked uninterruptedly until 1993. Pittigliani started as an assistant in the press department of the Sinter label, moving up to positions of greater responsibility, including artistic director. His work was fundamental to the development of bossa nova, as he was one of the people responsible for the genre's first records recorded by artists such as Carlos Lyra, Nara Leão, Os Cariocas, and Tamba Trio.

Recognized as a great talent scout, Pittigliani has worked with a wide range of iconic Brazilian music artists. His list of collaborators includes names like Jorge Ben Jor, Sérgio Mendes, Taiguara, Jackson do Pandeiro, Elis Regina, Joyce, Tamba Trio, and Marcos Valle. His ability to identify and promote new talent established him in the industry, leading Charles Gavin and Caetano Rodrigues to call him "one of the greatest talent scouts in the national recording industry."

In addition to his work as a producer and talent scout, Armando Pittigliani also stood out for his work in marketing and promotion within the music industry. He was a pioneer in various strategies, such as the early recording of festival songs and the creation of innovative advertising campaigns for magazines and television. After leaving PolyGram in 1993, he founded ASP Produções Artísticas Ltda., where he continued to provide consulting for record labels and advertising companies, in addition to working in record production. His influence and legacy in Brazilian music are undeniable, shaping careers and launching works that became cultural milestones.
