Biography

Antônio Arnaud Rodrigues was a multi-faceted Brazilian artist born in Serra Talhada, Pernambuco. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to television, comedy, and music, working extensively with notable figures like Chico Anysio and Dedé Santana. His versatility allowed him to shine as an actor, writer, and musician, leaving a lasting legacy in Brazilian popular culture.

In the 1970s, Rodrigues formed the musical comedy group Baiano & os Novos Caetanos alongside Chico Anysio and instrumentalist Renato Piau, portraying the character Paulinho Cabeça de Profeta. Beyond comedy-infused music, he pioneered significant milestones in Brazilian recording history, including releasing "A Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha" in 1978, often cited as the first roots reggae track recorded in Brazil. He also released "Melô do Tagarela" in 1979, featuring Luiz Carlos Miéle, which is recognized as an early precursor and adaptation of rap in Brazil.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Rodrigues was a celebrated television actor and writer, creating memorable characters such as the blind street singer Cego Jeremias in the soap opera Roque Santeiro and the lovable immigrant Soró in Pão Pão, Beijo Beijo. He also entertained audiences for years on A Praça é Nossa, showcasing his satirical talents. Arnaud Rodrigues passed away in 2010 following a boating accident in Tocantins, remembered fondly as one of Brazil's most creative and versatile entertainers.
