Biography

Arraial do Pavulagem is a renowned Brazilian regional music group and cultural institute founded in 1987 in the city of Belém, in Pará. Initially called Pavulagem do Teu Coração, the project was born from a musical gathering in Praça da República led by musicians such as Ronaldo Silva, Júnior Soares, and Rui Baldez, with the goal of valuing Amazonian roots and promoting traditional rhythms. Over decades of activity, the group has established itself as an important disseminator of Northern Region culture, promoting manifestations such as carimbó, siriá, lundu, and boi-bumbá toadas.

The group's trajectory is marked by major street events that mobilize thousands of participants, such as the traditional Arrastão do Pavulagem, held during the June festivities, and the Arrastão do Círio, which takes place on the eve of the Círio de Nazaré. Through its cultural institute, created in 2003, the organization also develops educational and environmental projects, such as Cordão do Peixe-Boi and Cordão do Galo on Marajó Island. The cultural impact of Arraial do Pavulagem has been formally recognized over the years, receiving titles as Cultural Heritage of Belém, Cultural Heritage of Pará, and, in 2024, being sanctioned as a manifestation of Brazilian culture.

The group's work deeply engages with the universe of popular festivities and Amazonian ancestry, inspiring generations of artists and revellers.
