Biography

Artur Barbosa Júnior, known professionally as Barbosa Júnior, was a Brazilian singer and composer who left his mark on the popular music scene of his time. Born in Rio de Janeiro on May 17, 1891, he was the brother of singer Luiz Barbosa and composer Paulo Barbosa. His career, though not extensively documented in popular music archives, gained traction in the mid-20th century.

Barbosa Júnior's recorded output includes notable works such as the sambas "Eu vou de beijoqueiro" and "O pierrô chorou…", released for the 1941 Carnival season. These recordings, accompanied by the Conjunto Odeon, showcase his participation in the vibrant musical landscape of Rio de Janeiro during that era. His work, alongside his brothers, contributed to the rich tapestry of Brazilian popular music, particularly in the genres of samba and marchinha.

Despite the limited information available, Barbosa Júnior's legacy is preserved through his recordings and his connection to a family of musicians. He passed away on May 21, 1965, leaving behind a body of work that, while perhaps lesser-known than some of his contemporaries, remains a valuable part of Brazil's musical heritage. His contributions, though modest in scope, are a testament to the diverse talent that fueled Brazilian popular music.
