Biography
As Melindrosas was a Brazilian female musical quartet formed in 1978 and disbanded in 1986, initially created by producer Jorge Gambier to explore the children's music market with a disco music rhythm. Before their official stage debut, the project premiered with the LP Disco Baby in 1979, featuring studio vocals by the group Os Carbonos and singers such as Vivian Costa Manso. The group became official following a call to appear on the television show Fantástico, bringing together sisters Maria Odete, Iara, and Suely Miranda, alongside Paula, who were sponsored by Argentine DJ Mister Sam.
Throughout their career, the quartet sold millions of copies of their albums and participated in film productions, such as the movie directed by J. B. Tanko, É Proibido Beijar As Melindrosas. The group underwent several lineup changes over the years, with the early departure of Maria Odete (who adopted the stage name Gretchen and went on to achieve widespread national prominence) and Suely (who later became known as Sula Miranda, the Queen of the Truck Drivers).
Following the end of the group's activities in the 1980s, the members pursued different paths in music and other fields, with Yara Miranda investing in projects such as the groups Video Girls and Hora Certa, while Paula opened a restaurant business. The group's history marked pioneering work in the phonographic market aimed at children in Brazil, indirectly dialoguing with the success of other popular artists of the era, such as Bozo the Clown.
