Biography

O Asdrubal Trouxe o Trombone was a Brazilian theater group formed in 1974 in Rio de Janeiro, which stood out for its comic and anarchic approach, breaking away from the solemnity of the protest theater of the time. Influenced by the British group Monty Python, the collective was known for collective creation, improvisation, and casual performance, forgoing the figure of the traditional author. The group's energy and irreverence were crucial for the renewal of Brazilian dramaturgy, especially in the field of comedy, influencing future generations of artists and television comedy shows like "TV Pirata" and "Casseta & Planeta".

The group revealed a generation of talents who would become prominent names in the performing arts and Brazilian music, including Regina Casé, Hamilton Vaz Pereira, Luiz Fernando Guimarães, Perfeito Fortuna, Patrícia Travassos, and Evandro Mesquita. The proposal of Asdrubal Trouxe o Trombone was to express personal and collective realities through art, using classic texts as a stimulus for creation, as in the productions of "The Government Inspector" and "Ubu Roi". The theatrical deconstruction and the appreciation of the interpreter's creative resources were hallmarks of the collective.

The group's peculiar name came from a code between Regina Casé and her father, Geraldo Casé, a pioneer of Brazilian TV, to withdraw from uncomfortable situations.
