Biography

Augusto Garcez was a Brazilian composer known for his contributions to samba and carnival music. His career spanned several decades, with his works being recorded by prominent artists of his time.

Garcez's songwriting collaborations resulted in numerous popular songs. In 1938, Carlos Galhardo recorded his batucada "Mania de quem ama." By December 1939, Galhardo also recorded "Gargalhei," a collaboration with Henrique de Almeida and Arnô Canegal. That same year, his carnival marchinha "O gato e o rato," co-written with Wilson Batista and Arnô Canegal, was recorded by Odete Amaral. His partnership with Wilson Batista continued, leading to the songs "Grito das selvas" (1941) and "O Juca do Pandeiro" (1943).

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Garcez continued to produce music, often in collaboration with other notable composers like Nelson Cavaquinho and Cyro de Souza. His songs "Apresenta-me àquela mulher" and "Não te dói a consciência?" were recorded by Cyro Monteiro in 1943. "Beijo na boca" (1945) and "Aquele bilhetinho" (1945) were also recorded by Monteiro. "No boteco do José," a collaboration with Wilson Batista, became a carnival hit in 1946 when recorded by Linda Batista. Later, in 1957, Roberto Silva recorded "Aquele bilhetinho." In 1968, Paulinho da Viola performed "Não te dói a consciência," and in 1983, the samba "Acabou a sopa," co-written with Geraldo Pereira, was featured on an album by Pedrinho Rodrigues and Bebel Gilberto.
