Biography
Áurea Regina de Oliveira Coelho is a renowned conductor, composer, arranger, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist born in Rio de Janeiro. During her academic training at UFRJ, where she graduated in Conducting and studied for a master's degree in Composition, she had the opportunity to study with prominent figures of Brazilian music such as César Guerra Peixe, Aída Gnattali, Roberto Duarte, Murillo Santos, and Hans Joachim Koellreutter. In addition to her solid classical foundation, she has worked as a guest artist in shows and recordings by major exponents of our music, such as Chico Buarque, Tim Maia, and Toninho Horta.
In the late 1980s, Áurea gained greater visibility with her composition "Arvoredo", which was widely played on Rio de Janeiro radio stations. In 1988, she founded her own label, Ar Music, through which she released the album "Serra Leoa", featuring guest appearances by renowned musicians like Arthur Maia and Mauro Senise. Years later, in 1996, she gathered an all-star team of instrumentalists — including names like Mike Stern, Vitor Biglione, Ricardo Silveira, and Djalma Correa — for the release of the "Myosotis Project".
Her career also gained international projection, highlighted by her composition of the soundtrack for the documentary "In The Shadows of the Mesa Verde", directed by Jim Bonnet for the Discovery Channel, a work for which she received recognition in the United States. Furthermore, while living in Argentine Patagonia, she founded the Orquesta Austral, for which she wrote the piece "Concierto de Las Ballenas Australes".
