Biography

Ávora di Carlla is a Brazilian progressive rock band conceived in the 1990s in Vitória, Espírito Santo. The project was initiated by singer-composer Gustavo Caverzan, who envisioned a musical collective focused on studio recordings. Despite the band's name, it appears they have performed live only once in their career, in 1998. The band's music developed independently of live audience feedback, a surprising aspect given Caverzan's emphasis on hermeneutics and listener response in artistic creation.

The band's debut album, "O Velho, a Carne e a Psicodélica Árvore do Imaculado Ventre da Terra," was released in 2010. The core musicians involved were Rogério Bezerra (keyboards), Luiger Lima (drums), Carlos Anderson (bass), and Flávio Veronez (guitars). The album was further enriched by guest musicians and elaborate orchestrations by maestro Helder Trefzger. The music is characterized by its eclectic appeal, drawing from symphonic prog, jazz, slow blues, acoustic passages, space rock, and avant-garde styles, all while adhering to a concept album structure that charts human experiences from dusk to dawn.

Although not initially intended as a concept album, the music's organic development aimed to faithfully represent the texts, resulting in a dynamic and epic work. The album's independent release was initially planned for online consumption, with a CD reissue appearing in late 2012. A follow-up album, intended as the second part of the dusk-dawn-dusk cycle, was planned for release in 2013. The project's focus on studio work and conceptual depth sets it apart in the Brazilian progressive rock scene.
